Artists include Tom Paxton, Kathy Mattea, Ysaye M. Barnwell, Jon Vezner, Robbie Schaefer, John McCutcheon, Darrell Scott and more. They’ll be joined by some of our KPA songwriting staff including Lea Morris, Donald Sosin, Sahffi Lynne, along with hosts Paul Reisler and Cheryl Toth.
Performer Bios:
Tom Paxton is a legend in the songwriting world. He has been an integral part of the songwriting and folk music community since the early 60’s and continues to be a primary influence on today’s “New Folk” generation. Tom has received 5 Grammy nominations as well as Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Recording Academy, ASCAP and the BBC. www.TomPaxton.com
Kathy Mattea is one of the most respected female country stars of her era, a commercially successful hitmaker who was able to bring elements of folk, bluegrass, gospel, and singer/songwriter intimacy to her music. Darrell Scott is a singer, songwriter, session musician and a four time Grammy nominated artist. He’s a multi-instrumentalist and he has toured as part of Robert Plant’s Band of Joy. Dr. Ysaye M. Barnwell toured with the internationally acclaimed singing group Sweet Honey in the Rock for more than 30 years, appearing on more than 30 recordings. She has performed everywhere from Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center to concert halls in Africa, Europe and New Guinea. She is a vocalist with a range of over three octaves.
Grammy award-winning songwriter, Nashville based, Jon Vezner is a tunesmith of rare sensitivity and dry wit. His catalogue of recorded songs, topped by the poignant “Where’ve You Been,” reflects his straight-to-the heart sensibility and emotional awareness. John McCutcheon a folk music singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has produced 40 albums since the 1970s. He is regarded as a master of the hammered dulcimer, and is also proficient on many other instruments including guitar, banjo, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, fiddle, and Jew’s harp. Robbie Schaefer is a musician, songwriter, and playwright devoted to service through the arts. He is the guitarist and songwriter for the indie folk band Eddie From Ohio and has released several solo albums, including his most recent, 2017′s Sounds Like Home: Songs From the Musical, Light Years.
